The Women’s Lounge, established in 2016, has a rich history of empowering and uniting women in the community through sewing, English and Maths functional skills, and cooking classes. In its initial stages, a small group of women from diverse backgrounds and ages joined forces due to their shared passion for sewing and cooking. Recognizing the value of these traditional skills, they envisioned creating a platform for empowerment and community building, leading to the establishment of the Women’s Lounge group.

Beginning with a handful of members meeting at a local community center, the group used sewing classes to impart skills such as garment construction, pattern-making, and fabric selection. Simultaneously, cooking classes provided a space for exchanging recipes, exploring diverse cuisines, and preserving culinary traditions. As the word spread, more women joined, and the group’s impact began to grow, not just in terms of practical skills but also as a supportive network of like-minded individuals.
